Bunker 101

Fallout larp

Bunker 101 – The Aftermath is a new major Chaos League production inspired by the great classics of the post-apocalyptic genre. It’s a unique event set in an extraordinary location — a real nuclear bunker, one of the largest in Europe.

The story unfolds in a dystopian version of the 1950s, where society struggles to survive after a nuclear apocalypse. It’s a tale of survival and oppression, freedom and control, hope and fear.

You’ll play as a Citizen of Bunker 101 — an employee, a trader, a scientist, an engineer, a nuclear operator, a doctor, an administrator, a politician, an explorer, and more.
Together, you’ll shape the destiny of your society and decide the future of humankind.

Bunker 101 is an event that redefines the canons of immersive fiction, a way of dreaming big, an incredible, unique experience: the adventure of a lifetime.

Loosely inspired by:

  • Pleasantville (TV series)
  • Dr. Strangelove (Movie)
  • Chernobyl (TV series)
  • Fallout (TV series and video game)

Falling out

§ TAPE NO.: 4481
§ AUTHOR: Thomas Duncan
§ DATE: Unknown

The cut has been made.

Since the first cobalt bombs fell, I’ve been working without rest — two hours of sleep a night, maybe less. My own life is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

I’ve given the order to open the doors. There’s only so much the bunker can contain. But there’s no limit to the guilt of those who must decide what will remain outside — people, memories, knowledge. Soon, the shadows of oblivion will descend upon what we once were.
Forgetting.

That’s what terrifies me.
I watch the first Citizens cross the armored threshold. They look for answers I can’t give. I try to smile — a meaningless gesture, perhaps — a small act of mercy. Some shake my hand. Some thank me. And I wonder if they truly know what awaits them.

It will take decades — perhaps centuries — before humanity can walk the surface again. There will be no more dawns to greet, no clouds to imagine shapes in, no stars to kiss beneath — for so long that we may begin to doubt they ever existed.

Yet within these walls lie the seeds of tomorrow. And what makes us human — that fragile thread — may still hold. The time for questions is over. The age of responsibility and resilience begins.
Cut and stitch.

Location

The Monte Soratte Bunker is one of the most fascinating and mysterious underground structures in Europe. Today, it serves as a striking natural set regularly used by major international film productions.

Excavated beginning in the 1930s, this vast anti-nuclear shelter extends for several kilometers: steel doors, hidden corridors, and the glow of emergency lights cutting through the darkness. Every element contributes to its extraordinary atmosphere.

A wide variety of environments makes it an ideal location for Bunker 101: command rooms, armored chambers, kitchens, laboratories, tactical halls, guard posts, living quarters, and much more. The space is further enhanced by our functional, meticulously crafted scenography.

The bunker is spacious and well-ventilated, with high ceilings and easily accessible exits directly from the play area.

What’s more, it is located near Rome, a city well connected by plane and train. We also have our own bus transfer service that will take you to the location.

The Bunker still sleeps.
For the past few days, I’ve been waking up with a start — as if something were calling me. A faint sensation, a thread stretched beyond my control.

I drank my ration of substitute in the cafeteria, savoring the silence and the soft breeze from the ventilation shafts. Most Citizens were still asleep. The daily bulletin carried the usual news: a brawl in Block Pentafive, a collapse during the Duncanist Celebration, three petitions for Redestination.

I was on my way to my station, whistling an old tune, when I passed the old sealed access hatch.

No one has crossed it in nearly a century. The radiation beyond that point is lethal — a relic of the First Generation. I’ve walked past it thousands of times, and yet that morning it seemed darker, as if the shadows in the tunnel had thickened there.

And then I heard it. It was like a whisper — something coming from both inside and outside me at once. A shiver crawled up my spine…

Setting

the dystopian 1950s

No one truly remembers the order of events. And in the end, it hardly matters whether the first warheads were launched from the East or the West. The thermonuclear war had been decades in the making — born of “cold war,” national pride, selfishness, and fear.

When the cobalt bombs fell in 1958, civilization ceased to exist. Cities vanished. Radioactive clouds shrouded the Earth. No refuge survived. Except one.

Someone had seen the disaster coming: Thomas Duncan — scientist, artist, visionary. He was the one who designed Bunker 101, a state-of-the-art atomic shelter built to sustain an entire community for as long as necessary. Duncan became the last prophet, the last savior of humankind.

It has been ninety-nine years since the fallout. The third generation of Bunker Citizens was born underground. They have never seen the sky. Outside the shelter, radiation remains lethal. The memory of the old world survives only in its relics — in the laws of the Codex, in the hierarchy of the Blocks, in the Schneider scale that decides who deserves to live, in the rigid structure of the Ministries.
A society designed like a single organism.

Bunker 101 is not merely a refuge. It is humanity’s only chance at existence.

Disclaimer

the marvellous 1950s

The 1950s are often remembered as an iconic decade — an age of dazzling optimism, economic boom, and the promise of the “American dream” finally within reach. A time when everything seemed possible.

But beneath that shining surface lay another truth: years marked by deep discrimination, war, violence, and poverty.

That’s why we decided not to trivialize the complexity of that historical period and to explore, in this LARP, the dichotomy between well-being and the price we pay for it.

Imagine...

…it’s the year 2057. The world above is nothing but a radioactive wasteland. The only survivors are the Citizens of Bunker 101 — a sealed community, descendants of a plan designed to preserve the human race.

…a structure truly built to outlast the end of the world. Concrete corridors, still-active terminals, forgotten archives, a maze of tunnels where every shadow tells a fragment of history.

…a cinematic-level setting, filled with realistic, functional props, inside an extraordinary location — an authentic nuclear bunker.

…your work, your ambitions, your secrets, your life inside Bunker 101.

Tonight Marilyn made a mistake.
One extra ration in the hydro-proteic feeder’s tally. Only one — corrected on the next cycle. An insignificant oversight, anyone would say. But Marilyn is engineered to be perfect. Redundant. Infallible.

Still, for the past few days she’s seemed slower to respond, as if she lingers an extra breath before answering. I mentioned it to my Supervisor. He told me it could be an internal self-learning update. “It happens, Marilyn is stable. We can be calm,” he said.

We trust that she cannot fail because failure is not permitted. I’ve worked with Marilyn since I received my name. I know her rhythms. The pauses. The soft hum when she’s at ease; the sharp whisper of static when she’s under strain.

Tomorrow I will check the logs by hand. Line by line. Because if Marilyn is not functioning correctly… the Bunker won’t notice until it is too late.

Design

branched design

Bunker 101 is a LARP that uses narrative techniques designed to reveal the inner world of the characters and explore their feelings.

The branching narrative structure we have designed for this event allows the decisions made by the Citizens of Bunker 101 to change the entire course of events. Each Bunker 101 will have its own unique story influenced by the narrative that emerges during the event.

Not only will the endings change, but so will narrative elements and secondary storylines.

themes

Bunker 101 – The Aftermath tells the story of a society struggling to endure against all odds — a civilization that has inherited a “perfect,” yet fragile, system. It is a story about survival, freedom, and control. It speaks of the fragile balance between duty and liberty, truth and deception, hope and fear.

It tells of a humanity trapped in its own anxieties, fighting to hold on against the darkness. Where lies the boundary between freedom, survival, and oppression?

Bunker 101 – The Aftermath is also a mirror — an opportunity to reflect on our own world, the society we live in, the freedoms we enjoy, and the price we pay to preserve them.

a complete remake

Bunker 101 – The Aftermath is the remake of Bunker 101, our first international larp — a story that captured imaginations across the world. But this is not a simple replay. It’s a complete reimagining — deeper, more mature, and born from years of experience and the passion of our incredible community. If you have already participated, it is perfectly replayable, and you will find many differences:

  • New characters – Entirely rewritten and reimagined, designed to let you dive deeper into the lives, conflicts, and secrets of those who call the Bunker home.
  • New storylines – Every thread redesigned to weave a richer, more complex narrative tapestry.
  • New play spaces – Expanded and enhanced areas, including zones never before opened to players.
  • New metatechniques – Innovative tools created to help you explore your character’s emotions, memories, and choices in unexpected ways.
  • New endings and branching paths – Your decisions will shape the story, leading to unique and unrepeatable outcomes every time.

I had never done a LARP before this weekend. It was so much more than I ever expected. By a day into it was was this other person and it was amazing.
Plus the nicest more caring, loving group of people I have ever met. Actually gives me a little hope for the outside world knowing there are really a lot of kind people out there.

An awesome team of talented, passionate and nice people. I definately had my best LARP experience at Miskatonic University. It’s immersive, well written, full of emotions and the safety is on point. I would 100% recommand and trust them again for other LARP adventures!

The attention to detail in the story was phenomenal and you could tell that the experience was crafted with love. Highly experience Chaos League after this Larp

Experience

Slice of life

The Bunker is like a miniature city, suspended in the 1950s. In the morning, the scent of synthetic coffee drifts through the air, voices mingle in the cafeteria, and neatly pressed uniforms rustle down the corridors. Everyone awaits the “Enchantment Under the Sea” Ball, debating predictions for the upcoming election of the new President.

It’s a village where everyone knows each other by name — where the air smells of freshly baked apple pie, and the radios play old-time hits. Children chase each other through the tunnels, dreaming of becoming Bounce! champions, while life flows between small habits and big dreams.

In this game, you’ll live a “slice of life” experience — a story made of everyday gestures, connections, emotions, and choices that can change everything.

You’ll play a person with ambitions, desires, lifelong friendships, rivalries, love, and fragility. You’ll belong to a family unit, have a job, a hobby, friends, loves, and dreams — your routine, your life.
And yet, beneath the polished surface of this dystopian perfection, something begins to stir.
A shadow.
A doubt.
A secret.
Something that will change everything.

STate of the art larp

We’ve been creating large-scale international larp events for over twenty years, and we’ll admit it — we’re obsessed with quality. From the moment you sign up to the final after-party, we take care of every detail to make sure your experience is unforgettable.

Whether this is your first larp or your hundredth, you’ll find a warm, inclusive community of extraordinary people ready to welcome you.

We believe deeply in the creative and expressive power of human beings. That’s why we design every event with meticulous attention to detail — to offer you an experience that moves you, inspires you, and lets you become the author of a powerful, shared story unlike any other.

We’re real people, driven by passion. Got a question? We’re right here.

Accessibility

The Soratte Bunker is a historic location — and by its very nature (which is also part of its charm!) it doesn’t offer all modern comforts.

There are bathrooms (in prefabricated structures), running water, and a kitchen, but the environment is simple and functional rather than luxurious. There are also some aspects that may be problematic for some people:

  • Some areas are a little dusty (although everything is well ventilated).
  • There are some stairs to access the upper levels (about twenty steps) that cannot be avoided with lifts or goods lifts.

If you have any doubts or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’ll be happy to help.

Competitive gameplay — there’s no winning or losing here.

Physical clashes or combat.

Safe and Inclusive

We know that emotions in this game can run deep. That’s why we’ve created dedicated tools to help you live an experience that’s both immersive and safe:

  • Decompression space: a quiet area where you can pause, take a breath, and step away from the game whenever you need.
  • Safety techniques: we’ve developed specific tools and practices designed to protect you and others during emotionally intense scenes. You’ll find detailed information about them in the event guide.
  • Pre-game workshops: before the event, we’ll host sessions to help you feel comfortable and prepared — even if this is your first larp experience.

Our top priority is for you to play in an environment that evokes real emotion while always remaining safe, mindful, and respectful.
You’ll find more details about these tools in the event guide.

We believe in a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive community.
At our events, there is no space for discrimination of any kind — whether based on race, gender, sexual orientation, identity, age, physical ability, or religious belief. Every participant has the right to feel safe, respected, and free to express themselves.

Verbal or physical aggression is not tolerated — anyone behaving inappropriately will be asked to leave.

Our Safety Team is always on site: a group of trained, trustworthy, and empathetic people, ready to support you whenever you need help or just someone to talk to.
