Miskatonic professor found dead
Arkham awoke yesterday to grim news from the University on the hill. One of Miskatonic’s most distinguished professors, a scholar whose learning was honoured on two continents, was found lifeless at dawn inside the strange chamber he had built in recent months for the study of sleep.
In the chamber, which students had taken to calling “the Serapeum”, stood what we do not hesitate to describe as “strange” machines, still humming when the night porter forced the door. The professor lay within, his eyes wide open. Physicians of the Arkham Sanitarium speak of a heart that failed under the strain of the experiments.
The porter, a sober man of thirty years’ service, insists the professor was not alone that night: a second figure, he says, was seen leaving the hall shortly before three o’clock. Police have declined to comment. The University asks that the privacy of the family be respected.
