The studio

We believe in people, in the best part of each person. And we love stories, which are what make us human.

Chaos League builds worlds you can walk into. We write them, cast them, dress them, light them and staff them — then we hand them over to a few hundred people for three days and let them find out who they become inside.

Some of those worlds are entertainment: a bunker under a mountain, a university that teaches the wrong subjects, a ship that does not come home. Some of them are work: a training ground for a company, a classroom that has stopped being a classroom, a piece of publicly funded research into how democracies argue. The craft is the same one. What changes is the reason you were invited.

We are a studio of designers, writers, set builders, technicians, safety staff and researchers, working in Italian and English across Europe, North Africa and the United States.

Among the most innovative immersive experiences.

What we make

Three kinds of commission, one production company behind them. A castle weekend for four hundred strangers and a media-literacy toolkit for a Czech classroom are built by the same people, out of the same conviction: that a story you are standing inside changes you more than a story you are told.

Art & entertainment

Worlds for the public

Large-scale live-action productions with cinematic sets, custom soundtracks, practical effects and casts of one to four hundred players. Held in real castles, real bunkers, real deserts — the location is never a backdrop, it is the first thing that tells you where you are.

Participants at work inside a 1950s bureau set

Education

Learning you stand inside

Experiential programmes for schools, universities, NGOs and companies: edu-larp, simulation, structured debrief. Built for the moment where a participant stops answering as themselves and starts answering as the person the scenario made them.

A briefing scene aboard the Eclipse set

Innovation & research

Formats, tools, policy

Applied research with universities and practitioners across Europe, funded by Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and EIT: toolkits, curricula, hybrid physical–digital formats, and recommendations written for people who make policy rather than games.

The worlds

Each production runs several times a year, in Italian and in English, for an international cast. Below: the venue, the format, and what it actually is.

Bunker 101

The world ended. The instruction manual did not.

A post-apocalyptic 1950s dystopia staged four kilometres deep inside the Soratte Bunker outside Rome — a real anti-aircraft complex dug from 1937 onward. Families are numbered, duties are assigned, and the Commissions keep the paperwork. Somewhere between Pleasantville, Dr. Strangelove, Chernobyl and Fallout, with a bureaucracy that plays as horror.

Miskatonic University

Some knowledge should have stayed in the stacks.

An academic year at the university that shouldn't exist, staged in the mediaeval Kliczków Castle in Lower Silesia. Lectures, faculty politics, secret societies and a library that answers back — the Cthulhu Mythos played as campus drama rather than monster hunt. A separate North American edition runs on a US campus for a largely different audience.

Eclipse

First contact, and the people who have to report it.

A science-fiction drama staged at Alvernia Planet, the domed film-studio complex outside Kraków — a set that already looks like a base on another world before we touch it. Airlocks, corridors, a bridge, and light design that does most of the acting. Closer to Interstellar and Arrival than to space opera: the crisis is real, but the story is about chains of command, love, and what people sign their names to. Our largest production to date by attendance.

Expedition Sahara

1934. A lost city, and the people who want it for different reasons.

Staged in the Tunisian Sahara from the Sahara Douz — the largest hotel of the Eastern Erg — and the Maison du Voyageur, then out into a fully dressed camp at the heart of the largest desert on earth. Archaeologists, journalists, soldiers and financiers cross the sand together for four days. The heat, the dark and the silence are not effects — they are the set, and they do more to the cast than any script could.

The Secrets We Keep

Everyone came back. Nobody came back the same.

An intimate psychological drama for thirty to forty players, staged at the Convento dell'Incontro in the hills above Florence — a 1716 building on an older hermitage, held by woods on every side. A group who grew up together in the same institution return as adults. No monsters, no plot to defeat. Just the thing nobody said, eighteen years ago, and the weekend it takes to say it.

1630 & the repertory

Smaller rooms, sharper knives.

1630 puts a plague year inside the walled mediaeval village of Po' Sante di Sotto in Umbria. Zoo is a chamber piece about a brokerage agency and the people it trades in, driven by mechanics rather than sets, staged at DAS — Dispositivo Arti Sperimentali — in Bologna. And the International Larp Festival gathers the scene for a weekend of concurrent short-form larps — the place where the formats we are still arguing about get played first.

Places we work in

We do not build rooms that pretend to be somewhere. We go to the somewhere. Venue partners get a production that arrives with its own crew, its own safety plan and its own insurance, treats the building as a collaborator, and leaves it as it found it.

What venue partners say

Written by the people who hold the keys. These are excerpts from signed reference letters given to us by the owners and managers of buildings we have worked in.

After organizing 7 events in 2023 at Kliczków Castle, we can highly recommend Chaos League for any future cooperation. All events proceeded smoothly as planned due to the attention to detail by Chaos League staff, and payments were promptly made as agreed.

Research & innovation

A working studio that is also a research partner. We sit in consortia with universities and civil-society organisations — on democracy, media literacy, climate, migration and inclusion — and we are usually the ones responsible for turning the theory into something a room full of people can actually do.
